Still no AC

Week 2 of no AC. The new unit is in town, but the company is booked until next Friday, yes Friday July 6th!!!!! Thank gosh we are leaving town this friday and won't have to put up with another week of hot air. It better be working when we get home from PA or someone might get hurt.

Flugtag picts coming.

It's getting hot in here.........

Well one week without AC has been do able. Night time temps have been in the low 60's and the humidity has been low, until yesterday. Today it is hotter then snot and the house is getting toasty. Hopefully by late next week (preferably before vacation) the new unit will be installed. Slow process though the home warranty company, but it is saving us a LOT of $$$$$. Worth taking a couple cold showers a day.

Big mistake on my part was wanting homemade pizza's. So we cranked up the oven to 425 last night, which made the house awfully hot. Then cold shower. Uh.

Duathlon Day!

The DU that Rebecca and I have been training for was Sunday morning. The event was a 2 mile run, 11.4 mile bike ride, 2 mile run. Rebecca did awesome, smoking a lot of people on the bike course (avg'd over 14mph!). Very impressive!! I was in the transition area with my stuff when she came in after the bike ride before the 2nd run and the first thing she said was, "I hate you. You said this would be fun." I smiled, cheered her on, as did a couple other folks nearby, and we walked the last 2 miles together. Bec did awesome, even if she wasn't really happy about it at times.

I tried to break one hour for the course and just missed it. I stopped my watch at 1:00:20. So close. I lost the time on the bike where the road was ~7ft wide and there was a group I couldn't get around. We rode at 23mph, but I wanted more. I did avg 22.8 for 11.4 miles with being stuck behind people. I ran 7 min miles for the first 2 miles and 6:55 or so for the last 2 miles. I missed hitting my heart rate monitor to clock myself for the last 2 miles, but I can back calculate it.

I was 39th out of 282 finishers and 4th out of 26 in my age group (30-34 male), but would have needed to be 2:20 faster for 3rd place!! I passed 2 guys in my age group on the last run, so that was awesome as I'm not the best runner. I caught and ran next to them for a minute, then kicked it up to see if they could hang (with them then knowing I was in their age group as our age is on the back of our legs). Neither did. Sweet!

Pict from Stage Race

Here's a picture of me in the time trial at the Memorial Day Stage Race. Some professional photographer took it. I guess I was moving too slow as he was able to get a good shot:)

Note the nice aero position.

Of Mice and Cats

The defender of the homeland!!

Yup, mice in the basement. We'd stored bird seed down there until a mouse chewed up the bag and made a big mess. That was a couple months ago. Well the mouse (mice) is back and chewed through a large Omaha Steaks styrofoam box, made a heck of a mess, and there was poo everywhere and I mean everywhere! I cleaned up some of it (more to do) and put out 4 snap traps. First night: 2 dead mice.

Bec thinks the big one was a field mouse, while the smaller one is a house mouse. Either way, they're dead. I tossed the mice into field behind the house to give the other mice a warning. Thus far no additional kills (last 2 days), so I guess they are paying attention.

I am a lean, mean hunting machine.

In other news, Chessie and Nick get along just fine.

Just a word: I changed the settings (now that I figured them out) so that you can leave a comment without registering your email or anything. I opened this blog and got no extra spam or anything, so fear not.

Triathlon #1

David enjoying the triathlon/making fun of the goofy clothes, hairy backs (not mine), and the funny looking people at the race.

Bec trying to stay away from the funk of Scott after the race. Yes, I would have been faster if I shaved the rug on my chest.

Saturday was my first tri of the year. I didn't think I'd even get there with allergies turned sinus infection and I was cranky all week (as Bec). I felt awful Thursday night and took Friday off. I felt ok at 4am on race day and decided to go. The Heatwave Triathlon was in Jackson, MS and the distances were:
0.5 mi swim
24.5 mi bike
6.2 mi run

I felt awful warming up (hacking and wanting to throw up). I paid already, so I figured I'd just take the swim easy and see how it goes. I started on the outside of the wave start (taking the scenic route a little) and ended up feeling good and out of 48 in my age group (30-34 male) I had the 7th fastest swim. And I didn't try!!! I was out of the water in 14:00, ahead of my goal time. I took a slow transition to the bike and was a little dizzy (usual after a race swim) and took off. The bike was a mile longer then they told us (turn around was apparently not measured and randomly put out). I avg'd 22.3 mph, which was over my goal of 21 mph. I did get sucked into a group of riders and we all got 2 min drafting penalties. I won't complain about it, but it was crap. I didn't ride really hard because I needed to save energy for the 6 mi run, but I definitely could have given more on the bike. Wish I had. The run was basically slightly uphill for the first 3 miles. Sucked. But then we turned around and ran downhill for 2 miles with the last 40 meters being the steepest uphill all day. I ran 7:48 miles or something (my race times changed so I don't know exactly what I did).

Goal time: 2:18
Done: 2:12:54 (plus the 2 minute penalty)
20th in my age group before penalty, 25th after penalty.

I was tired, but satisfied with my first tri of the year. Especially since I was sick and didn't fuel and hydrate properly.

Kitty battle

Just a couple picts of the cats. They sit close to one another, but it usually ends in a hissing battle and a quick fight. They haven't quite established the pecking order.
